Abstract

1332476 Clamping devices R FAUCONNIER 5 Oct 1970 [10 Oct 1969 10 July 1970] 47261/70 Heading B8H A device for clamping an elongated building element 1 comprises a rigid structure which includes two upstanding posts 27, 28 joined by an upper bracing tube 31 and two lower horizontal cross beams 29, 30, the posts 27, 28 each having at their upper ends holes 33 for engagement by the hooks 34 of a hoisting cable (not shown), the device further comprising a pair of arms 41, 42 each having a clamping claw 43 pivotally mounted at its outer end, the said arms each being pivotally connected at 54 to a respective pivoting member 52 pivotally mounted at 55 to the cross beams 29, 30, and there also being connecting rods 53 pivotally connecting the members 52 to a sleeve 51 which is in threaded engagement with a shaft 47. Rotation of the shaft 47 in either direction about its axis by means of a handle 49 causes movement of the sleeve 51 therealong and thus the members 52, due to their connection with the said sleeve, are pivoted about the pivots 55 causing the arms 41, 42 and thus the claws 43 either to move inwardly so that the claws 43 engage with the upper transverse edges of the element 1, or else the arms and claws are moved outwardly away from said edges for disengagement of the device from the element 1.
