Abstract

1332374 Press frames SCHLOEMANN AG 9 June 1971 [11 June 1970] 19639/71 Heading B5F A pre-stressed press frame comprises two opposed load-bearing members 1, 2 spaced apart by thrust members 4, and tensioned members 5 interconnecting the load-bearing members and applying thrust to the thrust members 4, the tensioned members 5 being in the form of plates, each plate having at least one bilaterally-projecting end portion 6 for transmitting force to the respective loadbearing member 1, 2 either directly or through an interposed member 7. As shown, the thrust members 4 are hollow and house the tensioned members 5. The members 5 may extend through openings 8 in the members 1, 2, the openings also having a slot (10) large enough to receive the end portions 6. Alternatively the openings to receive the members 5 may be recesses on the outside of the members 1, 2 provided with cover members (14), Fig. 4 (not shown). Pre-stressing may be effected mechanically or by heating, shims 12 being inserted between the members 2 and 4. Guide strips 13 are provided for a ram 3 operated by an hydraulic cylinder 2a.
