Abstract

1332076 Agitator mills AUGUSTS Ltd 26 May 1972 [3 July 1971] 31248/71 Heading B2A Milling apparatus comprises a bowl or vessel 10 in which is a rotatable mixing member or agitator 54, which is driven through the base of the bowl, the bowl being charged with milling media such as glass or plastics beads (3 mm. diameter) blocks or plates. The bowl 10 has a base plate 12 secured to a drive sleeve 42 which is concentric with the axis of a bore in the plate 12 and is rotatahly mounted in bearings 43. A shaft 46 is rotatably mounted within the sleeve 42 in bearings 48, 50 carried by the sleeve 42 and frame 44. The shaft 46 is driven by a reversible hydraulic or/electric motor by an infinitely-variable-ratio belt and pulley drive 52, 53. A one-way clutch 60 prevents the bowl rotating, when the shaft 46 is rotating one way, but permits it to rotate with the agitator when the shaft is rotating the other way, so as to centrifuge the contents via a filter plate 16 and screen 22 with an annular chamber 36 from which it is discharged via an outlet.
