Abstract
1331981 Pyrotechnic devices WALLOP INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 Jan 1971 [19 Jan 1970] 2577/70 Heading F3A [Also in Division C1] A pyrotechnic device comprises a container filled with a column of smoke-generating or illuminant composition, in which at least that part of the surface of the container in contact with the side of the column is made of polyacetal resin. This prevents the flame front from spreading along the sides of the column. The resin also burns away so as to prevent " choking " if the composition is otherwise unenclosed. The container may be made wholly of polyacetal resin or may comprise a lining of the resin inside a metal tube or rolled foil. The container may be in the form of concentric tubes or a tube surrounding a rod with the pyrotechnic composition in between. The pyrotechnic composition is based on magnesium and a binder with other ingredients selected from sodium nitrate, barium nitrate, mannitol, potassium perchlorate, barium chlorate and strontium oxalate. The polyacetal resin is a polymer of formaldehyde or a simple derivative thereof.
