Abstract
1331553 Charging blast furnaces DEMAG AG 19 April 1971 [4 April 1970] 26334/71 Heading F4B Apparatus for equalizing pressures in a blast furnace 2 and its charging hopper 1 includes a crude waste gas reservoir 22 fed from one of the offtakes 9 with a connection to the charging hopper 1 through valves 24 and 27, and gas cleaners 16 fed from offtakes 8, 9, 10 and 11 also having a connection to said charging hopper through valves 21 and 27. Owing to loss of pressure in the cleaners 16, the pressure at valve 21 is less than that at valve 24. An impulse from a pressure differential control 29 opens valve 21 admitting clean waste gas through pipe 18 and non-return valve 27 into the charging hopper. Later valve 24 is opened admitting crude waste gas into said charging hopper via pipe 32 valve 27 to equalize the pressure. The pipe 32 is of substantially greater diameter than pipe 18. To charge the hopper 1 sealing valve 3 is opened and relief valve 20 in an offtake 19 allows displaced gas to escape. Other relief or safety valves 13, 14 and 30 are provided in the system and valve 17 controls the passage of cleaned waste gas for conventional uses. Heavier particles are deposited in chamber 22 owing to the presence of baffles 25. In a modification (Fig. 2) the flap valves 3, 4, 5 and 6 are replaced by ball valves.
