1331343 Antistatic polyolefin additives CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 19 April 1971 [10 Feb 1970] 21413/71 Heading C3P [Also in Division B2] An anti-electrostatic additive for polyolefins comprises a mixture of (a) 60-96 wt. per cent of a glycerol monoester of a C 12 -C 26 fatty acid, which contains not more than 25% (relative to the weight of (a) + (b)) of diester and triester impurities, and (b) 40-4À0 wt. per cent of glycerol. As an optional additional additive there may be used (c) an amine of formula wherein z is 0 or 1, R is C 6-26 alkyl or C 6-26 alkenyl, R<SP>1</SP> is the radical (C x H 2x O) 2 H and R<SP>2</SP> is H or the radical (C x H 2x O) n H, where x is 2 or 3 and n is an integer from 1 to 7. The proportion of the mixture of (a) + (b) Œ (c) in the polyolefin is preferably 0À2-2À8 wt. per cent, the proportion of (c), when present, preferably being 0À05-0À8 wt. per cent of the total composition. Alternatively the mixture of (a) + (b) Œ (c) can be applied to the surface of a polyolefin moulding or moulding composition by dipping or spraying an aqueous or organic solution of the mixture. The compositions may also include conventional phenolic, sulphur-containing, phosphite and alkane sulphonate stabilizers. The polyolefin may be polyethylene, polypropylene, poly(1- butene), poly (1-pentene) or ethylene-propylene copolymer.
