Abstract

1330817 Gauging devices D MELVIN 14 July 1972 32973/72 Heading G1X A gauge for enabling the scribing of a mark or line a predetermined distance from a reference face of a workpiece comprises a stock 1 having front and back faces for abutting the reference face, a blade 10 extending across the stock 1 and arranged to be secured at different angles and at different distances along the length of the blade 10 to the stock 1, the blade 10 being arranged to be able to project more from one side of the stock 1 than the other. As shown, the blade 10 which may be marked in units of length is provided with a longitudinal slot 11 which has a bridge portion 12 forming a stop for co-operation with a tab 18 on a channel-shaped clamping element 15, the clamping element being urged to clamp the blade 10 relative to the stock when a nut 17 is tightened on a threaded member 16 secured to the stock 1. The slot 11 in the blade 10 is arranged to cooperate with either an elongate bar 2 on the stock 1 when the blade 10 is to be angled perpendicularly to the stock 1 or a cylindrical spacer 7 when the blade is to be otherwise angled relative to the stock 1. The threaded member 16 which is arranged to engage a tapped hole in the stock 1, bar 2 and spacer 7 and pass with clearance through a hole in the clamping element 15 is locked in position by a nut 26 at the end opposite the nut 17. The top face of the stock is provided with angle graduations so that, in use of the gauge, markings can be made along the edges of the blade once its longitudinal and angular position relative to the stock 1 has been set.
