1330540 γ - Alkyl glutamate - N - carboxylic acid anhydride ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 28 Aug 1970 [15 April 1970] 41664/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] A process for producing an optically active γ-alkyl glutamate N-carboxylic acid anhydride (NCA) comprises reacting phosgene with a finely-divided optically active γ-alkyl glutamate suspended or dissolved in a reaction medium which is a solvent for the NCA adding to the resulting mixture a non-solvent for the NCA miscible with and having a boiling point higher than said reaction medium and distilling off said reaction medium to crystallize out the NCA in the form of microcrystals. Examples are furnished. The products are polymerized to obtain optically active poly-γ-alkyl glutamates.
