Abstract

1330467 Stud-and-socket fastenings JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 7 Dec 1969 [15 Dec 1969] 60976/69 Heading E2B [Also in Division G1] The cylindrical body 10 of an instrument case with external flange 12 has a plurality of ramp surfaces 15, spaced round the body 10 and from the flange 12 to which they are inclined, and a clamping ring formed of a flexible resilient material and having inwardly projecting parts 16 provided with inclined surfaces which are engageable with the ramp surfaces 15 to clamp the body 10 in an aperture in a panel the inwardly projecting parts being formed on portions of the ring which have smaller axial dimensions than the remainder of the ring. With a sealing ring 19 against its flange 12, the body 10 is inserted in the panel aperture and the ring applied with the projections 16 in register with grooves 14 leading to the ramp surfaces 15 thereof which are engaged by inclined surfaces 17 of the projections 16 when the ring, is turned. The surfaces 15, 17 may be inclined at 20 degrees to the flange 12 and may be undercut at 45 degrees to prevent outward flexing of narrow portions 18 of the ring. A second set of surfaces 17a are provided to allow the ring to be reversed for use with a thinner panel. The case 10 may be moulded from clear, synthetic resin and the ring is formed of flexible, resilient, synthetic resin, such as nylon. The flange 12 has interruptions for the bezel 20 to be attached to the body 10 by a form of bayonet fastening.
