1329774 Gas discharge display panels BURROUGHS CORP 11 Aug 1971 [24 Aug 1970] 37598/71 Heading H1D A gas filled display panel comprises a first grooved plate with a first set of electrodes 60 disposed in grooves 30, a second set of electrodes 70 spaced from and crossing the first set, a second plate 110 with a matrix of apertures 120 aligned with the intersections of the first and second sets, a third plate 150 and a third set of electrodes 130 between the second and third plates extending over the apertures, the first plate having an end which extends beyond the other plates to support the ends of electrodes 60. The electrodes 70 containing apertures 100 are arranged in slots in the first plate or in aligned slots in the first and second plates. The intersections of electrodes 60, 70 define an array of scanning cells. A further set of electrodes 130 extend over plate 110 in slots in either plate 110 or cover plate 150. The ends of electrodes 130 are bent down into grooves 30 e.g. by a glass or ceramic rod (12) Fig. 1 (not shown) without contacting electrodes 60. External connections to electrodes 60, 130 are effected in the grooves 30 in the extended end portions of the first plate. The connectors comprise an insulating bar 65 with a plurality of pins 80 which contact the ends 62 of conductors 60 formed into resilient balls. Alternatively the contacts fit into grooves 30 and bear down on the electrodes, the contacts may be on the rod 12. In further embodiments the contacts are formed by bent over ends of wires which are wrapped around a grooved block which mates with the grooves in the first plate. The plates are of glass or ceramic. The electrodes 70 and first and second plates are aligned by pegs 95.
