Abstract

1328447 Charging blast furnaces DEMAG AG 19 April 1971 [5 March 1970] 20587/71 Heading F4B The charging apparatus of a high pressure blast furnace comprises a hopper 3 with a rotary base 5 having an offset delivery mouth 44, a gas lock chamber 8 with upper and lower sealing valves 7 and 13, flap valves (50, 51, Fig. 2) controlling the passage of charge material from the gas lock 8 and a bell hopper 56 whose bell 14 opens into the furnace throat 25. The rotary base 5 is driven by a motor 48 through gearing 47 in a housing 49. Valve 7 is mounted on a shaft 32 by a crank-arm 33 and is driven by a fluid motor 35 through a connection 34, the valve and part of its mechanism being disposed within an offset chamber 30 during passage of charge material. Valve 13 is similarly driven about shaft 42 and enters an offset chamber 43. The flap valves (50, 51) are also operated by fluid motors (52, 53). The bell 14 has vertical suspension rods (38, 39) extending through and journalled in the upper wall of hopper 56, said rods being connected by chains 21 to rockers 19 mounted on shaft 22 rotated by a fluid motor 16.
