Abstract

1328060 Diphenylsulphone - 4,4<SP>1</SP> - dicarboxylic acid GELSENBERG AG 26 April 1972 [8 May 1971] 19430/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Diphenylsulphone - 4,4<SP>1</SP> - dicarboxylic acid is purified by treating a mixture of diphenylsulphone - 4,4<SP>1</SP> - dicarboxylic acid and contaminating material comprising one or more isomeric diphenylsulphone dicarboxylic acids at 10‹ to 100‹ C. with a solvent consisting of at least one aliphatic alcohol and/or at least one aliphatic ketone to preferentially dissolve the isomeric material, and separating the resultant solution from the insoluble material enriched in diphenylsulphone - 4,4<SP>1</SP> - dicarboxylic acid. Specified solvents are methanol, isopropanol and acetone and mixtures thereof. Examples are given which illustrate this process.
