1327584 Welding electrode holders JOHN DAVIS & SON (DERBY) Ltd 19 April 1971 [15 April 1970] 17845/70 Heading H5H A welding electrode holder with means to isolate an electrode 19 clamped therein from the electrical supply comprises two metal rod parts 8a, 8b, which break the supply when separated, one part 8b forming a movable clamping jaw 9a in the clamping head 6 and the other part 8a being connected to the supply lead 7. A sleeve 10 is slidably and rotatably mounted on the part 8a, and is secured to head 6 at one end and carries a collar 11 at its other end formed with a slot 15 engaged by a pin 16 secured to the body 5 of the holder. A spring 12 acts between sleeve 10 and a stop 13 to urge head 6 away from the body 5 such that fin 16 normally lies in portion 15a of the slot 15, with parts 8a, 8b, separated but with clamping jaws 9a, 9b, pressed together by a spring 17. A telescoping section brings parts 8a, 8b, together against spring 12 to complete the supply circuit, and the parts are retained in contact against a further spring 20 by the engagement of pin 16 in a notch 22 in slot portion 15b. To remove an electrode 19, the body 5 is rotated from the Fig. 2 position relative to the head 6 so that pin 16 moves along the spiral slot portion 15c, Fig. 3, (not shown), and tne jaws 9a, 9b, are opened by movement of part 8b away from the head 6, such movement being permitted by slots 23 in sleeve 10 along which cross pin 14 slides. Parts 8a, 8b, remain spaced apart during this movement.
