Abstract

1327495 Aromatic diamines E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 19 April 1971 [25 March 1970 18 Dec 1970] 24087/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] An aromatic diamine is obtained by reacting an aromatic compound which is a monoamine derivative of an aromatic hydrocarbon or of an aromatic compound having a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring, the derivative optionally containing a nitrile group or an ether group or one or more alkyl groups, with NH 3 in the presence of a Ni/NiO catalyst composition at a temperature of 150‹ to 500‹ C. and at a pressure of 10 to 1000 atmospheres and recovering the resulting aromatic diamine. The catalyst may additionally comprise at least one oxide or carbonate of Zr, Sr, Ba, Ca, Mg, Zn, Fe, Ti, Si, Al, Th, U, Ce or one of the alkali metals.
