Abstract

1327390 Moulding thermoplastic articles IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969] 62604/69 Heading B5A A moulded article with an oriented surface layer is made by placing at least one insert of oriented thermoplastic strip or film or material woven from oriented thermoplastic tapes on at least part of one or more surfaces of the mould, and moulding, preferably by injection, a thermoplastic in the mould to produce an article which includes the insert or inserts as part of its surface. The article and inserts may be of the same material e.g. a propylene polymer or copolymer. The insert preferably has a thickness of at least 10 microns and is releasably secured within the mould e.g. by means of double sided adhesive tape, or by a heat sensitive release agent or by mechanical means.
