1326977 Welding by pressure M R UNIGOVSKY J K KONOVALOV E V RULEVSKY P I ZAKREVSKY V S ROTENFELD A I CHVERTKO V K LEBEDEV T B GOLENZOVSKY G V GORBUNOV V I PROKOFIEV K I ZAITSEV V S LIFSHITS OS PAPKOV G N PETROV S I LITVINCHUK 6 Oct 1971 46389/71 Heading B3R Machinery for welding pipes together to form extended pipe lengths comprises skids 5 for supporting pipes 7, 8, 9 and feeding them individually to a roll conveyer 2, a resistance butt welding machine 1 mounted on and in line with the conveyer 2, and cutting means 3, 4 for removing both external and internal weld flash. Completed pipe lengths 11 are discharged from the rolls 10 of conveyer 2 on to discharge skids 12. The means 4 for removing internal weld flash comprise a hollow piston-rod 13 (Fig. 2) adapted to be moved axially a short distance by pneumatic cylinder 14, the rod 13 supporting a cone 15 adapted to collect weld spatter and having an inner shaft 17 which carries a cutting tool 18 driven by a motor 16. The whole internal flash removing device is mounted on a carriage 20 itself supported from the conveyer 2; the carriage may be retracted for clearing of the cone 15 but during the welding operation is located so that either the cone 15 or tool 18 is disposed in the plane of the weld between clamps 19 of the welding machine.
