Abstract
1326916 Wells &c HALLIBURTON CO 27 Nov 1970 [8 Dec 1969] 56491/70 Heading E1F Offshore well testing apparatus comprises a telescopic joint 11, valve actuating means 13, a valve 14, a conduit 7, 8 extending from the joint through the wellhead 2, and abutments 1001, 1002, 1003 (Fig. 2) on the conduit engageable with a support 205 on the wellhead. The support is the upper of three blow-out preventers. The valve has a member 1404 (Fig. 3b) which is moved from the closed position (shown) to the open position by the weight of drill collars 13 acting against the spring shown, the movement being controlled by a damper 1415. The apparatus below the valve comprises a telescopic joint 15, a pressure recorder 16, a jar 17, a safety joint 18 and a packer 19. With packer set and the conduit supported from support 205 by abutment 1001 both joints are closed and the valve and a safety valve 12 associated with the joint 11 are closed. When the abutment 1002 rests on the support 205 the joint 11 is in an intermediate position and the joint 15 is closed so that the weight of the collars 13 is transmitted to the valve 14 to close it. When the abutment 1003 is used (Fig. 6a, not shown), the joint 11 is extended and the joint 15 is in an intermediate condition, so that the collars 13 and valve 14 are suspended from the joint 11 and the valve 14 is open. In the normal working position, i.e. when the abutments 1002, 1003 are used one or other of the joints 11, 15 is in an intermediate position, so that up and down movement of the conduit caused by wave action does not interfere with operation of the valve 14. In operation, a pressure reading from the recorder 16 is taken with the valve 14 closed, and the valve is then opened, by supporting the conduit from the abutment 1002, and pressure readings with fluid flowing are taken. When the valve is open fluid flows through it via passages 1406, 1413, 1411, 1403, 1412, 1301. When the valve is closed again, a fluid sample is trapped in the chamber 1403 for subsequent analysis. The valve 14 includes a by-pass valve comprising a valve closure 1408, by-pass ports 1409, and a sliding abutment 1406.
