Abstract

1326302 Yeast ASAHI KASEI KOGYO K K 6 Sept 1971 41457/71 Heading C6F Yeast cells of relatively large e.g. 1À5% by weight, methionine content are produced by aerobically culturing in a hydrocarbon-containing medium, a hydrocarbon assimilating Candida yeast having resistance to ethionine and recovering the resulting yeast cells. The ethionine resistant yeast employed is preferably one exhibiting a degree of growth when cultured for 24 hours in a medium containing 5 mg/ ml of ethionine at least 60% of that attained with the ethionine-free medium. Examples are directed to the cultivation of ethionine resistant Candida petrophilum, Candida rugosa and Candida tropicalis upon n-paraffin having a boiling point of 200-370‹C.
