Abstract

1325554 Opaque paper SCHOELLER TECHNICAL PAPERS Inc 11 Sept 1970 [11 Sept 1969 29 June 1970] 43624/70 Heading D2B [Also in Divisions B2 and G2] A gray opaque paper for use in the production of positive print papers for diffusion transfer photographic processes comprises a fibrous sheet containing uniformly distributed therein titanium pigment particles, a light absorbing colourant, and colloidal particles in an amount of between 1.5 and 15% by wt. of the titanium pigment particles, The latter may be TiO 2 or fibrous potassium titanate particles. The light absorbing colourant may be colloidal carbon black or Nigrosine WSB. The colloidal particles may comprise a hydrous magnesium silicate or a hydrous aluminium oxide. The paper may be prepared by adding the titanium pigment particles, colourant, and colloidal particles to the fibrous suspension before the latter is wet-laid to form paper. A titanium pigment extender, e.g. a sodium alumino silicate, and a dispersing agent, e.g. sodium hexametaphosphate, may be added together with the titanium pigment particles. A cationic starch, rosin size and alum may also be added to the pulp suspension. The finished paper may be tub-sized with an oxidised starch.
