Abstract
1325506 Yarn heat treatment apparatus N KODAIRA 28 Aug 1971 40461/71 Heading B5B [Also in Divisions D1 and F4] A heat treatment apparatus A for synthetic yarns, e.g. polyamide or polyester yarn, consists of a plurality of elongate jackets 3, the upper part of each jacket being connected through a pipe 7, having a constriction therein, to a common header 8, the lower part of each jacket being connected to a common heating medium chamber 4, the header 8 and the bottom of the chamber 4 being connected by a pipe 9 to form a closed inside space, the apparatus being characterized in that one of the jackets communicates via a pipe 20 with a pressure-sensitive bellows 22 which is in turn connected to a vacuum bellows 23. Fluctuations in pressure of the vapour in the jacket 3 causes a lever 31 to pivot to operate an electric converter which varies the power supplied to an immersion heater 6 in the liquid medium 5 in the chamber 4 to control the pressure of the vapour. The constriction in the pipe 7 increases the velocity of the vapour into the header and thereby prevents accumulation of inert gas and low boiling point materials in the top of the jacket 3. In a preferred embodiment, the header 8 is of arcuate form. The heating apparatus may be mounted on a machine frame to be movable horizontally. Each jacket is preferably provided with an arcuate yarn contact surface which may or may not be removable. In a further embodiment, a removable yarn contact surface is mounted to be adjustable horizontally. A further embodiment employs a tube for the yarn, which tube passes through the jacket 3.
