Abstract

1325300 Air cushion vehicles AIR CUSHION EQUIPMENT Ltd 22 May 1972 [22 May 1971] 16508/71 Heading B7K A wheeled transporter 1 is off-loaded by an air cushion 3 confined by a skirt of U section contiguous elements 5. In order to reduce wear of the lower edge of the skirt a sheet 6 of rectangular planform is secured at 20 at its forward edge to the vehicle so as to be dragged over the ground surface 2 in face-to-face contact therewith. Ties 19 may secure the rear edge of the sheet to the vehicle and similar attachments may be made at the sides. The rear ties may be replaced by an attachment 20. Air for the cushion is delivered through ducts 15 and manifold 16 supplied through duct 17 from a pump on a towing vehicle and to reduce the contact pressure of the sheet 6 with the ground the sheet has a large central aperture or a plurality of perforations. An adjustable form of attachment for the forward edge of the sheet is described (Fig. 4, not shown).
