Abstract

1324942 Polyurethane coating IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 March 1972 [7 April 1971] 8942/71 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Polyurethane surface coatings are prepared by applying to a substrate and allowing to cure a solution, in a solvent inert to isocyanate groups, of (i) a polyurethane which is free from isocyanate groups and which is the reaction product of an essentially linear hydroxylended polyester, polyesteramide or polyether and an organic polyisocyanate, (ii) from 0.01 to 0.15% by weight, based on the weight of polyurethane, of a silicone compound containing at least two terminal hydroxyhydrocarbyl groups, from 0 to 30 repeat units of the formula -SiR 2 -CH 2 -O- and 1 to 300 repeat units of the formula -SiR 2 -O- wherein R represents a hydrocarbyl radical and (iii) a polyisocyanate curing agent, the solution being characterised in that the resulting polyurethane film has a tackiness value of less than 50g when determined by a defined blocking test. The polyurethane solutions may be applied to the substrate by transfer coating, by means of a doctor blade, or reverse roll coating. In specific Examples a brushed nylon fabric and a raised cotton fabric are coated with polyurethane solutions by a transfer coating technique.
