Abstract

1324649 Tufting machine UNIVERSAL TUFTING MACHINERY (LANCS) Ltd 15 Feb 1972 [16 Nov 1970] 54351/70 Addition to 1277472 Heading DIG The tufting machine claimed in claim 1 of Specification 1,277,472 is provided with four modifications-(1) The catch selectively connecting the needle bar 16 with the needle holder 7 comprises a plunger 20, here shown as a pneumatically operated plunger controlled by electronic means; (2) A shoulder is provided on the holder 7 at 16 to contact a shoulder 17 on the bar to assist in withdrawing the needle from the backing material; (3) Each needle bar includes a yarn gripping device 28 which permits forward feed of the yarn but prevents its backward movement; (4) Each needle aserobly comprises two rows of needles, those of one row being staggered with respect to the other to lie on different tuft lines (Fig. 6, not shown). The Specification also discloses a plate 32 holding the backing material onto its backing plate. The holders 7 are bushed with self-lubricating bushes for the needle bars. The loopers and knives (Fig. I, not shown) reciprocate horizontally. (For Figure see next column)
