Abstract

1323753 Laminates RICOH KK 31 July 1970 [8 Oct 1969] 37140/70 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions C3 and G2] A heat sensitive stencil sheet comprises a porous thin paper sheet weighing 8-10 g./m<SP>2</SP>. on to one surface of which is bonded a thermoplastic film by means of an adhesive containing at least one suitable compound which is a metal salt of a fatty acid having 10-22 carbon atoms. The adhesive may comprise a vinyl resin, e.g. polyvinyl acetate, or copolymer of a vinyl acetate with ethylene, maleic acid, methyl acrylate, acrylic acid, butyl acrylate or methacrylate or crotonic acid, or an acrylic resin, e.g. polyacrylic acid, polymethylacrylate, polyethylacrylate, polypropylacrylate, polybutyl acrylate, or acrylonitrile-methacrylic acid copolymer. The metal salt may be of calcium, zinc, cadmium, magnesium, lead, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel or copper, and a saturated or unsaturated fatty acid containing 10-22 carbon atoms. The adhesive may be applied in the form of a solution in alcohol or as a dispersion by roll coating or spraying. The paper may comprise fibres of mitsumate, paper mulberry, manila hemp, rayon, polyvinyl alcohol or acrylic fibres. The thermoplastic film which may have a thickness of 5-10 Á may be made from polystyrene, polypropylene, polyethylene or vinylidene chloride-vinyl chloride copolymer. The stencil may be produced by superimposing the original carrying the desired image upon the film carrying surface of the stencil sheet and exposing it to infra red radiation to effect perforation of the film in the areas thereof corresponding to the image areas of the original.
