Abstract

1323535 Liquefied-gas tankers GAZ TRANSPORT 17 Sept 1971 [17 Sept 1970 21 July 1971] 43483/71 Heading B7A [Also in Division F4] The hull of a ship is provided with a tank for carrying liquified gas, which tank comprises, in one embodiment (Fig. 1) a secondary heat insulating barrier formed by wooden boxes 3 filled with perlite and attached to the inner hull 1 of the vessel by means of studs 2. Between the boxes 3 (Fig. 3) a nickel-steel strip 8 is located by means of battens 9 fastened to the strip 8 bearing against tenons 6 on the boxes 3. The nickel-steel plates 10 of the secondary liquid barrier are welded to strip 8 by means of the bent-back flanges 11 so that strip 8 projects, a tab 13 is fastened to this projection and carries a resilient ring 25 and bolt 15 by means of which the primary heat insulating barrier of boxes 17 is secured. Between the boxes 17 (Fig. 7) is attached a bent-back metal strip 19 to which is hooked a further strip 21 to which the plates 22 of the primary liquid barrier are welded, the arrangement allowing the primary liquid barrier to slide relative to the primary heat insulating barrier. The resilient ring 25 may be replaced by pair of flat springs placed face-to-face and joined at their ends. In the second embodiment (Fig. 8) the secondary heat-insulating barrier is attached to the inner hull 1 by brackets 36 and studs 32, while the resilient connection between the barriers is afforded by an inverted U-shaped spring 48.
