Abstract

1323360 Enamelling metals G SCHAUMBURG 2 Dec 1970 [14 Nov 1970] 57270/70 Addition to 1281021 Heading C1M [Also in Division B3] A process for improving the detectibility of surface defects in continuously cast products as described and claimed in U.K. Specification 1,281,021 which includes the additional step of, prior to coating the product with vitreous enamel, directing a jet of water having a pressure of more than 100 atmospheres against the product to remove scale. Preferably the water is supplied at a rate greater than 200 litres/minute and at a speed of between 15 and 100 metres/ second, the jet having a diameter of between 0À2 and 3 mm. The water is supplied from a pressurized water installation 13 located intermediate a continuous casting mould 1 and a chamber 4 where enamel is blown on to the product 3.
