Abstract

1323198 Bundling ties BUCHANAN ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS CORP 25 June 1971 29992/71 Heading E2B A unitary bundling tie of flexible material for being looped about a plurality of wires &c and retained in such looped configuration, comprises an elongate strap portion 12 including a plurality of ratchet teeth 22 spaced from one another along part of the length of the strap, each tooth having an inclined leading face 24, an apex 28, and a trailing face 26 inclined from the apex toward the trailing face, a head portion 18 at one end 14 of the strap portion and having an aperture 20 through which the strap portion may be advanced in a longitudinal direction from one end 44 to the other end 46 of the aperture. Extending laterally into the aperture are a pair of longitudinally spaced, pawl teeth 52F, 52R each having an inclined leading face 53, an apex 55 and a trailing face 54 inclined from the apex toward the leading face, the pawl teeth being located for engaging the teeth 22 on the strap portion 12 when the latter is advanced through the aperture 20. The spacing P between the pawl teeth is less than the spacing R between adjacent ratchet teeth such that one of the ratchet teeth will be seated between the pawl teeth to retain the strap portion against withdrawal from the head portion. As shown, the teeth 22 are recessed below the upper surfaces of side rails 30 of the strap and the latter has bead-like runners 34 which slidingly engage with the surface 49 of the T-shaped aperture 20. The pawl teeth are carried on a tongue 50 having grooves 58, 59 which permit the tongue to flex arid allow forward and rearward rocking motion of the teeth.
