Abstract

1323197 Moulding belts BRECO KUNSTSTOFFVERARBEITUNGS GmbH & CO KG 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 24706/71 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions B8 and F2] A plastics or elastomeric material belt or band 12, Fig. 1, e.g. a driving belt, "V" belt, toothed belt, or conveyer belt, reinforced with longitudinally extending yarns, or wires 18 of plastics or metal, is produced by continuous injection of the material from a nozzle 17 into a cavity 10 defined between opposed endless chains of co-operating interconnected mould sequents 4, which are driven by the injection pressure and respectively move into, and diverge from, a closed cavity defining location as shown at 6, 7 and 8, 9, a seal being effected between the closing segments 4 and the injection nozzle and around the reinforcements 18 which are fed into the cavity in the direction of injection. In the Figs. 1 and 3 embodiment, the sealing is effected by a sealing strip 21 which seals around the nozzle 16 and the reinforcements 18, as at 20 and 24, and against contacting projections 22, 23 of the segments 4 which, in the moulded belt or band 12, respectively define teeth 13, and projections 14 which may be provided with transverse holes 28, formed by hydraulic cylinder 27 actuated cores 26 carried by the segments 4. Two or more of the belts or bands 12 may be joined in parallel by bolts extending through the holes 28 to form a grating or sieve belt defined by the spaced apart bolts, or a conveyer or cooling band when the bolts support the material to be transported or cooled. An enless belt or band may be formed from a length 12 by overlapping or joining the reinforcements bared at both ends, and injecting therearound, e.g. in a vulcanizing mould, to the required toothed configuration of the band. Alternatively, the ends of the length 12 may be cut obliquely and joined in abutment by bolts through the holes 28. In the Fig. 6 embodiment, a pair or more of interconnected belts or bands 29, 30, each comprising a plane upper, and a toothed lower face, are moulded in parallel, each with reinforcements 18, employing a similar sealing strip, and with the injection being into a channel defined between the segments 4 and communicating with each belt cavity by spaced slots defining longitudinally and transversely extending interconnecting strips 33, 34 in the moulded belt or band, which may serve as supports for material being conveyed. Holes may be formed, similarly to the Fig. 1 and 3 embodiment, through each lower belt tooth and through which bolts may extend to function in place of the teeth 13, in engagement with teeth of a band driving gear. Alternatively, the bands 29, 30 may be separated by cutting of the strips 34.
