Abstract

1323183 Cyclopropane esters and acids thereof BDH PHARMACEUTICALS Ltd 22 Dec 1971 [14 Jan 1971] 1874/71 Heading C2C Dicyclopropanecarboxylic acids and esters thereof of formula wherein X represents a C 1-6 alkyl group or an aryl group and R represents a hydrogen atom or a C 1-6 alkyl group, optionally substituted by a C 1-6 alkoxy group, or represents a C 3-6 cycloalkyl group or an aryl group, and Hal represents a halogen atom are prepared by subjecting an ester of formula in which X and R have the above-stated meanings to the effect of a dihalocarbene forming reaction mixture in the presence of a strong base, if desired with subsequent hydrolysis of the ester to form the acid. The invention also comprises compounds of the above formula in which X represents a (C 1-6 ) alkyl group, or an aryl group and R represents (C 1-6 ) alkyl group substituted by (C 1-6 ) alkoxy group, or represents a (C 3-6 ) cycloalkyl group or represents an aryl group and Hal represents a halogen atom.
