Abstract
1322631 Anti-theft devices YMOS-METALLWERKE WOLF & BECKER GmbH & CO 2 Sept 1971 [9 Nov 1970 6 May 1971] 40919/71 Heading B7J [Also in Division E2] In a steering and ignition lock, the steering- column blocking bolt 13 is actuated from the lock barrel 2 through an axially-moving shifting gate 4 moved by a shifting pin 3 projecting from the lock barrel and engaging a cam surface 30 on the gate to lift it against spring 6. The lower end of the gate has a pocket formation 15 which entrains a hook 14 projecting from the top end of the bolt, with lost-motion, taken up when column-blocking occurs, by a spring 16. Near its upper end, the shifting gate has a circumferential groove 9 and an axial recess 31 receiving a shifting slide 5 which has a congruent groove, these grooves being engageable by a spring- loaded slide-latch 7 projecting from the top end of the barrel, ramp surfaces 8, 56 driving this slide-latch in towards the barrel on axial movement of the slide, except when a key in passage 34 blocks this movement. This prevents the bolt being shot when the key is in the lock and in the 'OFF' position St, but when the key is withdrawn, spring 6 forcing the gate downwardly, also forces the slide-latch inwardly against spring 38 which then causes it to snap out over the upper surface of the gate and of the shifting slide 5 which is prevented from projecting above the gate by a projection 53 working in a pocket 49 in the gate. When the key is inserted at position St and turned towards the starting position, the raising of the gate through cam surface 30 causes the slide latch to hold the shifting slide down until it rotates into the now raised groove 9. The lock may be rotated to its extreme position D for starting and when released, returns to M, the running position, due to the steepness of the last part of the cam surface between these two positions and the pressure of spring 6 and also of spring 32 under the slide 5 because at its extreme upward position it is depressed by a stationary pin (58). A latchng interlock 26 (see also Figs. 11-13, not shown) prevents the lock being returned to the starting position D unless it has first been rotated right back to a position at which the ignition is switched off. There is a "Garage" position G, and a detented position A at which certain accessories may be energised. A notch 57 in the slide 5 indicates this position when turning back. When the lock is turned right back to St, the slide-latch engages in slot 9 in the slide 5 to hold the gate up until the key is withdrawn, as described above. The whole locking assembly is secured in its housing (not shown) on the steering column, by a spring loaded radial pin (19).
