Abstract
1322363 Powder cloud developing device XEROX CORP 30 June 1970 [3 July 1969] 31613/70 Heading G2H In a powder cloud developing device 20 toner particles are dispensed at a controlled rate into a high velocity air stream emerging from a nozzle 25 by a roller 24 which also charges the particles, either triboelectrically or by electrical biasing the air stream being directed between a development electrode 30 and the surface to be developed. The electrode 30 may be provided with protrusions e.g. hemispheres, fibre tufts or perforated funnel members, and/or may be vibrated in order to introduce turbulence into the air flow. The 'spent' stream is directed past a precipitation roller 31 upon which unused toner is collected, through a filter 34 and back to the far 21. A reservoir 23 of toner is provided above roller 24 to which toner on roller 24 is returned by a scraper blade 35. Seals 26 e.g. of rabbit fur are provided to prevent escape of toner. In a simplified embodiment Fig. 7 (not shown), a transverse flow fan 72 is mounted in a housing 71 creating a clockwise flow of air. The fan blades are coated with a material having a triboelectric property such that the toner particles are charged by contact.
