Abstract

1322032 Sewing machine SINGER CO 23 Sept 1970 [29 Sept 1969] 45241/70 Heading D1G A sewing machine having provision for moving the needle laterally of the usual feeding direction while the needle is out of the work, to provide zig-zag stitches, has means selectable by an operator to move the needle laterally while the needle is in the work to provide a lateral feeding movement: The usual feed dog may either be dropped, or employed to provide an inclined feeding direction. The sewing machine described is that disclosed in Specification 808351 and essentially provides a handle (87 not shown) adjusting the width of lateral jogging of the needle and a handle (45) for adjusting the stitch length. A cam 600, a top fixed cam 500 and an upper removable cam 400 are provided. When follower 99 is interposed between cam 600 and pitman 93 the needle is moved from right to left, for example, while the needle is out of the work and remains there while the needle descends and risesagain. Cams 400 and 500 have twice as many nodes as cam 600 and rock the needle bar gate, when follower 99 is appropriately positioned, while the needle is in the work (Fig. 3 not shown).. Presser feet. The under surface of the presser foot 703 is provided with a rib (708, Fig. 2 not shown) which surrounds the needle aperture 707 and is of uniform cross section to provide a resistance which is the same for all directions of the work movement.
