Abstract

1321440 Mechanical switches; retractive switches TELEMEOCANIOA ELETTRICA OFFICINE MECCANICHE RILINITE SpA 17 July 1970 [18 July 1969] 34734/70 Heading H1N A multidirectional lever switch has its lever 18 mounted in a ball joint 28 by sphere 26, has a spring 30 between sphere 26 and positioning cap 32 and has a number of mioroswitches (only microswitches 13, 14, 15, 16 and 40 being shown) operable by a block 37 slidable in the arms 38 of a first cross 39 and linked to lever 18 by oscillating joint 36. The microswitches operated are determined by the profile of the underside 44 of block 37 and by the shape of a second cross 33 on which runs positioning cap 32, the shape of cross 33 being such that when cap 32 is in the central position (as shown) two positions are offered to cap 32 for each of the four arms 38 of the cross 39. To operate the switch, cup 20 is pulled upwards which frees shank 21 of cup 20. from member 25 and pulls upwards stem 22 within hollow lever 18 by means of pin 23 in slot 24 in the wall of lever 18. When stem 22 is pulled upwards its lower end 42 releases pushbutton 41 of microswitch 40 to send a signal. Lever 18 can then be tilted by means of knob 17 to either side or forwards or backwards. Assume knob 17 is tilted to position A3. Block 37 depresses pushbutton 48 of microswitch 14 and cap 32 rides up the right hand inclined surface 34. If knob 17 is then released, spring 30 in conjunction with surface 34 returns cap 32 and lever 18 to its central position. If knob 17 is moved to position A1, cap 32 rides into the right hand retaining seat 35 so that when the knob 17 is released cap 32 remains in seat 35 and both pushbuttons 48 and 50 of microswitches 14 and 13 remain depressed. Lower surface 44 of block 37 can be shaped, for example having a hollow centre so that in position A1 only pushbutton 50 is depressed. Cross 33 may have different shapes. With the shape shown in Fig. 1 (repeated in Fig. 2 (not shown)) there are four retractive and four latched positions. With the shape in Fig. 3 (not shown) the surfaces 34 and 35 are reversed so that the switch is latched in position A3 and not latched in position A1 giving four latched and four retractive positions but reversed from Figs. 1 and 2. With the shape in Fig. 4 (not shown) there are eight retaining seats giving eight latched positions.
