Abstract

1320655 A tooth replacement VITREDENT CORP 19 April 1971 [1 June 1970] 27282/71 Addition to 1295966 Heading A5R A dental implant for insertion into the alveolus in the jaw of a vertibrate comprises a member having a root section 22 of substantially conical shape having a series of longitudinal splines 24, with at least the surface portion of the root section being of isotropic microcrystalline carbon, such as vitreous or pyrolytic carbon. The root section may have longitudinal grooves (61), (63), Fig. 6 (not shown) and circumferential recesses (60), (62) to aid implantation of the root section. A socket 32 is provided in the root section to receive a pin 36 which is secured by dental cement. The pin terminates in a cylindrical head 38 for securing a crown 50. The ratio of the largest dimensions at right angles across the base of the cone may vary from 1:1 to 1:1.5. The member may comprise two or more such conical root sections.
