1319944 Core chucks VICKERYS Ltd 22 March 1972 [23 April 1971] 11113/71 Heading F2U In a core chuck 10, for gripping a roll 22 of paper, for winding or braking, of the kind in which longitudinal keys 14, loaded outwards by underlying blade-springs 20 into engagement with the roll, and adapted to tilt under torque to bite into the roll and produce positive drive, the key 14 is of rectangular section closely fitting the keyway 13, and, under torque, tilts about one or other inner edge according to the direction of the torque, so that its diagonally opposite outer edge bites into the roll 22 In addition the key 14 is so dimensioned that the opposite inner edge contacts the side wall of the keyway at the same time that the opposite face of the key contacts the outer edge of the keyway (Fig. 6, not shown), thus preventing further outward tilt of the key. A garter spring 23 around the reduced ends of the keys retains them before the roll is fitted.
