Abstract

1319615 Alarm systems CERBERUS AG 16 Sept 1970 [16 Sept 1969] 44209/70 Heading G4N In an alarm system having a plurality of condition-sensing devices 4 connected to a central control panel 1 by means of a common line 5, 6, said devices 4 responding to an unwanted condition by providing a D.C. signal from a voltage supplied by the control panel 1, a line-terminating unit 7 is included to provide an A.C. signal to the control panel 1 so as to check continuity of the line 5. 6. The circuit shown is suitable for use in the control panel of a central station in a fire alarm system which comprises a plurality of sensors 4 connected across a line 5, 6 and having a oscillator or pulse generator connected to the remote end of the line so as to provide test signals, in the form of current impulses, indicative of continuity of the line 5, 6. The circuit is powered at 39, 40, by D.C. from a mains-driven power unit and comprises a current limiting voltage stabilizer 41. In the event of one or more sensors 4 operating, transistor 42 is turned on, transmitting a signal to an alarm store 11 which, after 0À2 sees., periodically reduces the output of voltage stabilizer 41 so that an indicator lamp on the sensor begins to blink. The current impulses obtained from the test termination element 7 at the remote end of the line are however too short to operate the alarm store 11 but they are rectified at 46 and charge capacitor 48 such that if they persist for more than 1 sec., transistor 51 is turned on so as to prevent a fault indicator 52 from operating. In the event of a line fault, the test pulses will be absent so that transistor 51 becomes turned off and allows the fault indicator 52 to operate. Test signal generators may take the form of a neon sawtooth oscillator (Fig. 2, not shown), a transistor or unijunction transistor pulse generator (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). Fire sensors 1 may comprise ionization chambers, photo-sensitive elements, temperature-sensitive resistors, bi-metal contact devices or thermo-couples.
