Abstract

1318931 Variable resistors ; retractive switches MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 1 June 1970 [30 May 1969 22 July 1969] 26319/70 Headings H1N and HIS A variable resistor, combined with a switch, has switch-actuating means 49, 48, Fig. 1, integral with the rider 23. The wedge ends of the actuators compress the long resilient arms of the J-shaped members 42, 43 and respectively break the electrical connection between each member and its fixed contact 46, 47 (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). In Fig. 7 the two members are connected to form a U-shaped connection between fixed contacts 46 and 47 and the ends of these arms are provided with transverse ridges which engage in detents in the actuator 70, 71 to retain the rider in the 'switched' position. The U-shaped member is loosely retained between 22 and 23 to allow a small amount of longitudinal movement. An alternative arrangement (Fig. 5, not shown) has contact arms arranged to be disengaged in an outward direction and the longitudinal play may be provided by the actuator being loosely separately mounted within a recess in the rider (Fig. 10, not shown). The actuator is retained in the recess by the surrounding rider walls and a protrusion from the rider spring which engages the top of the actuator.
