Abstract
1318585 Mixing apparatus E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 29 July 1970 [30 July 1969] 36733/70 Addition to 1255638 Heading B1C Apparatus for mixing liquid reactants comprises a cylindrical chamber 16, inlets 17, 18 in the periphery of the chamber, at least one of the inlets being in the form of either a slot as shown, or more than two discrete apertures aligned axially of the chamber (Fig. 2, not shown), a rotor 20 mounted coaxially within the chamber and arranged to be driven by a source of power other than the inlet momentum of the reactants, the rotor being in the form of a cylinder having a diameter of 90-99.85% of the diameter of chamber 16 or having blades terminating close to the periphery of the chamber, and an outlet 19 in the periphery of the chamber downstream from the inlets in the direction of liquid flow. The inlet and outlet streams can be directed into and out of the chamber tangentially as shown or radially or at any angle therebetween. At least one of the inlets may be supplied via a distributor manifold or chamber (Figs. 2-4, not shown). The reaction mixture may be recycled through the apparatus (Fig. 5, not shown).
