Abstract

1318304 Injection-blow-moulding S FISCHER 17 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969 24 July 1970] 39510/70 Heading B5A Injection-blow moulding apparatus has a single drive source for the opening and closing of the two moulds e.g. the injection mould and the blow-mould, the drive source acting directly on a first one of the moulds and the power for the opening and closing of the other mould is taken from a part upon which the drive source acts directly and which moves during the opening and closing of the first mould. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus comprises a machine frame 11 carrying an injection cylinder (not shown) and in which spars 12, 13 are longitudinally slidable. Injection blowing cores 15 are mounted on rotatable shaft 17 journalled in the spars 12, 13. Arms 23, 24 carrying blow-mould halves 23, 24 are pivoted at 22 on a transverse bar 21 rigid with spars 12, 13 and are articulated by arms 27, 28 to extrusion 31 of frame 11. From the position of Fig. 1 spars 12, 13 are retracted, closing the blow mould 25, 26 and introducing the core 15 into the injection mould 14. In this position, arms 27, 28 are preferably colinear so as to clamp the blow mould parts together. After injection and blowing, spars 12, 13 are extended, opening the moulds, shaft 17 is rotated 90 degrees or 270 degrees for a fresh parison to be injected and the injected parison to be blown. If a threaded neck is desired, injection mould 14 has neck parts (46, Figs. 3, 4, not shown) spring- urged apart on movement away from the cavity, but held closed by abutment against core 15.
