Abstract

1318064 Aerials; radio direction-finders LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGSGmbH 11 Aug 1970 [18 Nov 1969] 38569/70 Headings H4A and H4D In an H.F. direction-finder a sense aerial comprises at least one pair of dipoles which in operation are connected in parallel and which are disposed symmetrically in relation to each other and to a central axis. The dipoles, which are co-planar with said axis, each consist of two linear elements flaring outwardly from a feed centre so that each element makes an acute angle, for example, 30 degrees, with the axis. As described, two pairs of dipoles containing elements 1, 2, Fig. 3, are disposed in orthogonal vertical planes, but the numbers of pairs may be increased until, in the limit, two truncated cones are formed (Fig. 4, not shown). The dipoles are fixed to a non-conductive housing 5 which is on top of a mast 6, and which contains a ferrite direction-finding aerial. A V.H.F. direction-finding aerial 8 may be arranged above the H.F. direction-finding aerial and the cable for the former may be led in a crossed loop 4 past the latter. If desired, the crossed loop 4 may also be used as a direction-finding aerial. A two-pole network may be inserted in the feed lines of the sense aerial to improve decoupling with respect to the V.H.F. aerial. Also, a balanced variable capacitor, which may be remotely controlled, may be provided for the sense aerial, the rotor thereof being connected to earth (Fig. 1, not shown).
