Abstract

1317718 Furnace seals ALLEGHENY LUDLUM INDUSTRIES Inc 19 April 1971 [2 Feb 1970] 22150/71 Heading F4B The vestibule 4 of an annealing furnace 6 operating under a special atmosphere is provided with baffles 14 to each of which are loosely pivoted about a shaft 15 a row of substantially U-shaped baffles 18 each having two planar substantially triangular sides 22 joined by a partition 24, the sides 22 being so dimensioned that when one or more of the baffles is displaced by a workpiece W adjacent sides remain overlapping. The baffles 18 rest on supports 38 between driven rollers 20 making an angle A with the vertical and individual baffles are slightly wider than the workpieces. Liftplates (40, Fig. 2) attached to shaft 15 engage the baffles enabling all of them to be lifted by external rotation of said shaft. A heat shield 8 is disposed adjacent the furnace 6.
