1316183 Invalid's chair carriages ADAPTO APPLIANCES Ltd 7 Sept 1971 [28 Jan 1971] 3393/71 Heading B7B An invalid transporter includes a platform mounted on a wheeled support and a movable seat device mounted above the platform and which may be locked to the support in a position parallel to the platform. In a preferred embodiment subframes 2, 3 are pivotally connected at one end by means of crossbar 5 and at the other end by subframe 12 supporting platform 13 and pivotally connected to subframe crossbar 8 and slidable in nylon lined bushes 20, 21 which are in turn pivotally mounted on crossbar 9 of subframe 3. Further subframe 22 is pivotally mounted in frame 3 and carries seat member 23 pivoted thereto. Locking devices 24, 25 and 26 screw into subframe 12 and seat subframe 22 respectively to hold the framework in the position shown, and when released subframe 22 pivots downwards and subframe 12 is lifted at the rear whereupon the pivoted bushes 20, 21 slide along side members 14, 15 so that the subframes 23, 12, 22 lie in substantially the same plane. In another embodiment. Fig. 2, spring loaded bolts 33 actuated by arms 37 are withdrawn from holes 34 to release the rear of seat subframe 22 and pins 32 attached thereto slide down slots 31 causing the seat to move downward. The seat 23 is preferably detachably mounted and may be replaced by a commode seat. The rear wheels may have a foot locking brake. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, 4 a seat is pivotally mounted by a swivel boss 41 to brackets 40 provided in the lower subframe. In operation, upon reaching an upright position the lower end of seat frame member 42 engages with plate portion 49 and axial pin 47 under the force of spring 45 engages the hole 50 while crank arm 51 is pivoted until pin 53 engages slot 54 by the weight of arm 55. To release the seat, arm 55 is lifted manually by release arm 57 to release pin 53 and crank arm 51 is pivoted by pressure applied to foot pedal 58 and the opposite end of crank arm 51 engages a radial pin (not shown) of bolt 44 thereby disengaging axial pin 47 from hole 50.
