131,603. Smith, N. Aug. 20, 1914, [Convention date]. Locking w h i l e standing. - Comprises means for locking the steering- wheel in any desired position to prevent unauthorized use of the vehicle. The lower surface of the hub 6 of the steering-wheel is toothed and can be engaged by corresponding teeth on a sleeve 10 which is slidably keyed on the steering column 9. When the teeth are in mesh a spring-pressed pin carried by the sleeve 10 enters a hole in the steering-column and locks the sleeve in its raised position. The pin is withdrawn by means of a key, and the sleeve is maintained in its lower position by a spring latch 21.
