Abstract

1315896 Photographic silver bleaching composition EASTMAN KODAK CO 12 Aug 1971 17 Aug 1970] 37912/71 Heading G2C A photographic silver bleaching composition comprises a nuclear substituted aromatic amine and either a water-soluble persulphate salt or a water-soluble nitrosodisulphonate salt in aqueous solution. The aromatic amine may have the formula: - wherein X and Y are each Hor 1-4C alkyl; and R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are each H, an amino group, OH, 1-4C alkyl, mono (1-4C alkyl) amino, or di (1-4C alkyl) amino providing that at least one of the groups R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> is not H. The water-soluble salts may be of ammonium or an alkali metal such as sodium, potassium or lithium. The composition may be buffered in the range from 1À9 to 9, e.g. 6. The composition may contain an alkali metal bromide. The compositions may be used to bleach silver in black and white or colour materials, without affecting image dyes or otherwise causing stains or water pollution when exhausted.
