Abstract

1314875 Data transmission systems INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 24 April 1970 [16 May 1969 27 June 1969 (2)] 19723/70 Heading H4P A data transmission system in which digital data is transmitted by a simulated modulated signal such as phase modulated signal or a VSB signal, comprising means to generate pulse sequences representative of signals r and r<SP>1</SP> in dependence on the digital data and modulation mode where, and where q and q<SP>1</SP> are coefficients dependent on the digital data and the modulation mode, and means to combine simultaneous individual pulses of said pulse sequences to produce a composite transmission signal. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement for generating a four phase modulated signal in which data elements enter shift register T1-T7, the states of which together with clock pulses P1-P4 generate equiweighted pulses for the r and r<SP>1</SP> signals, which are supplied to an adder AA having weighting resistors Re. The composite signal passes through a low pass filter FPB to the transmission network. In other arrangements VSB modulation signals and eight-phase modulation signals are derived.
