Abstract

1314562 Tunnelling CERVOTEC DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 27 April 1970 [5 May 1969] 20103/70 Heading E1F For detaching material from a tunnel face comprising a first surface displaced in the tunnelling direction from a second surface and separated therefrom by a step a tunnelling machine is provided with one or more implements, means, preferably the means of Fig. 6, associated with each implement for inserting the implement through said second surface to the approximate depth of the first surface at a location spaced a small distance from the step and for causing the implement after each insertion to rotate about an axis to cause the implement to be displaced towards the step to detach an increment of material to expose part of a new step face and means for repositioning the implement for removing further increments from successively exposed steps. Preferably the implement(s) is or are movably or rigidly mounted on an arm integral with a tunnelling head frame, the arm lying along approximately the locus of the step as the head, preferably being as described in the referred to Specification 1314563, is advanced along a helical path.
