Abstract

1312888 Measuring moisture content of air OFFICE NATIONAL D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES AEROSPATIALES 5 Oct 1971 [5 Oct 1970] 46317/71 Heading G1N Rapid changes in the moisture content of air near an agitated water surface such as the sea are detected by sucking the air through a convergentdivergent nozzle and measuring its dielectric constant by a capacitor 22 arranged just upstream of the narrowest part of the nozzle where the air is flowing at the speed of sound. The sensing capacitor comprises interleaned parallel plates Fig. 2 and 3, (not shown). One or more of the plates of the capacitor may consist of two outer layers (36, 37) each carrying on its inner surface a silicon dioxide layer (32, 33) coated with metal film (34, 35) arranged with the metal films in contact to provide a temperature compensation capacitor. The sensing capacitor and compensating capacitor are connected in an A.C. brige circuit Fig. 4, (not shown). The nozzle is within a tubular housing 11 also carrying a thermocouple 66, static pressure measuring means 64, and circuitry 61, 62, 63. Tubular support 19 is connected at 20 to suction. A protective grid 65 is provided.
