Abstract

1312772 Pulling hoods over stacks INGENIORFIRMAET BORGE CHRISTENSEN and INGENIORFIRMAET HANS HANSEN 24 Aug 1970 [3 June 1969] 28056/69 Heading B8C A collapsed tubular hood having longitudinal folds 6d and inwardly folded sides 6b, 6c is erected by gripping and pulling apart the folds 6d and is then pulled over a stack of goods on a pallet 28. A collapsed tubular web 6 is withdrawn from a roll 4 by upper and lower feed rollers 8, and has a plurality of transverse welded seams and perforations forming a series of separable hoods, a hood being separated from the web 6 by braking the upper feed rollers 8 while the lower rollers continue to run. The lower rollers 8 are then braked to hold the hood level with a pair of frames 12 which are then moved towards each other by air cylinders 20 until suction cups 14 engage the folds 6d, the suction cups 14 then being slightly retracted to open the hood a little and hold the folds 6d against fixed rods 16a. Air cylinders 22 then pivot rods 16 to grip the folds 6d. The frames 12 are then moved apart, being guided by rollers 18 running on rails 19. During erection, air can be directed into the hood by air jets (not shown). The frames are then lowered to draw the erected hood of the goods on the pallet 28, the hooded pallet then being passed to a shrinking oven. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3) the lower rollers 8 are replaced by welding tools (7) and a cutter (9), in which case the web 6 is unseamed and unperforated. In a third embodiment (Figs. 5-7) the frames 12 are replaced by bars (32) which diverge from beneath the rollers 8 and then run down the four corners of the stack. Each pair supports a series of opposed rollers (33) for engaging and advancing the folds 6d. (For Figures see next page.)
