1312468 Artificial teeth P F KURER 5 Nov 1971 [6 Nov 1970] 53036/70 Heading A5R A method of casting a post for a tooth crown comprises the steps of widening and deepening the root canal and countersinking to accommodate the head of a preformed headed post which is inserted in the canal, the post being made from polypropylene, polystyrene, or wax, shaping the head of the post to conform with surrounding teeth, removing the post from the root canal, inserting the post in dental inserting material, and using the mould so obtained to cast a post from gold or platinum/iridium alloy. A crown may then be fitted on the post. The preformed post may be of variable length. A cement simulation disc may be located on the root face before insertion of the preformed post into the canal, to represent the anticipated thickness of the cement which will be used to attach the cast post. A crown for the cast post may be made by taking an impression of the preformed post and of the surrounding teeth after the shaping of the head of the preformed post, locating the head of the preformed post in the impression, and then making a model from the impression, including the preformed post. The cast post can then be fitted to the model, and a crown therefor shaped. The cast post and crown can then be fitted in the patient's mouth.
