Abstract

1312463 γ-Butyrolactams BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 8 Sept 1970 42874/70 Heading C2C A γ-butyrolactam is prepared by continuously reacting a γ-butyrolactone with ammonia at a temperature of from 180‹ to 340‹ C. and at a pressure which is at least 10% higher than the sum of the partial pressures of the reactants at the temperature of the reaction. The pressure is suitably from 45 to 130 atmospheres, and the reaction may be carried out in the presence or absence of water. The starting material is suitably γ-butyrolactone itself or a (C 1 -C 4 ) alkyl or alkoxy-substituted γ-butyrolactone. Examples describe the preparation of pyrrolidone-2.
